About

Here’s 25 Random Things About Me:
  1. I was born in Switzerland, lived onboard a ship for 10 years, and spent time in over 60 countries. My brother Luke and I still compete over who has been to the most countries. I think he’s winning. Changing planes in a country’s airport doesn’t count Luke!
  2. I really, really love work and am good at it.
  3. Whenever I’m asked the question, “where are you from”, I don’t know what to answer.
  4. I used to think I was smart and picked a great husband. I now realize I had nothing to do with it. God was indulgent and generous and gifted me this wonderful man.
  5. I would like to have 5 kids, but I — nor my family — would survive another pregnancy.
  6. When I grow up I want to be an interior designer and start a micro lending bank for the poor. And throw parties. Always throw parties.
  7. My sense of smell and hearing are so overdeveloped it’s like a bad party trick. I can tell what a person has eaten for the past 24 hours from 10 feet away. I can hear my children whisper to each other upstairs when I’m downstairs watching TV. When I’m pregnant, it gets worse. Much, much worse. My grandmother and my daughter are afflicted with the same blessing.
  8. Friendships make my world go round.
  9. I absolutely love to cook and am getting really good at it. I can replicate a dish eaten at a restaurant, just by tasting it once. But please don’t ask me to stick to a recipe. It must run in the family. Mom, Dad (when he wants to), Luke and Charles are great cooks too.
  10. I would love to hold an annual New Year’s Eve party where everybody gets together in the same place for 3 days to reconnect and make new, fun memories.hmmm…seems I’m back to ‘throwing parties’.
  11. I have more energy than most and can drive my friends crazy from the sheer exhaustion of being with me. There’s no doubt I inherited it from my grandmother, Gigi.
  12. My faith, my spiritual practice, my walk, or whatever you prefer to call it, is important to me. It’s part of my core.
  13. One of my most rewarding jobs was raising $5.7M for the world’s largest, non-governmental hospital ship, and to organize its commissioning in London before it sailed to Africa to start work changing lives.
  14. My friends hold political views from extreme left to extreme right, they’re from many different languages and cultures with strongly opposing views and faiths. They have very different personalities and interests. They are old and young. Some are very strange (you know who you are). I like them. I like them in my life. I learn from them.
  15. In Heaven, I want to sing with the band, at the top of my voice, and sound like Christina Aguilera.
  16. I really enjoy my children and the process of raising them. It’s a pleasure to be with them and show them the world.
  17. I’m a great multitasker – I’m at my happiest when juggling work, husband, kids, friends, house, and a good party or two. I get lazy as my ‘to do list’ gets shorter.
  18. The first time I took a personality test (the Myers Briggs) I was 15 and my results were split down the middle in every single category. The proctor announced to me and the class that I was a freak and that some trauma must have happened to make me alter my natural tendencies. Maybe he was right But, I’ve taken countless similar tests and the results are almost always the same. Except of course for being Type A, which I always am. So, I’m both introverted and extroverted, sensing and feeling, thinking and judging, and all the other combinations…
  19. Lots of people have told me I should write a book about growing up on a ship and my abusive first marriage. I got started with several chapters about 12 years ago, which is not an impressive start. I don’t think you should hold your breath.
  20. Dreamboat and I are both really good with babies. We get them welcomed into the family, eating and sleeping well right from the start. All three so far have slept through the night from 14 days on. We’re going to stop with three, before we test the theory that we’re great parents, and realize we’ve just been lucky!
  21. I completed ground school and can hardly wait to dedicate the time to do my flight hours so I can finally get my pilot’s license.
  22. Red wine, whiskey, and chocolate are some of my greatest pleasures.  I enjoy them regularly. Mostly with friends. Sometimes alone. Especially if I’ve managed a few stolen moments of blissful quiet.  Hypothetically this may have happened while locked in my bathroom so the children didn’t hassle me. Hypothetically of course.
  23. I don’t understand when people say marriage is hard work.  Work, yes.  Hard, no.  It’s a joy. Ok…well in all honesty I’ve been in a miserable marriage that all the effort of a war-time labor camp couldn’t fix.  So, I do understand. But, it doesn’t have to be that way.
  24. Anytime I see pretty, sparkly things, all logical thought is drained from my brain and I am captivated.  It’s always been this way.  When I was two years old, and my mom and a friend were doing dishes, I caught a glimpse of the friend’s ring and took it to bed with me to snuggle.  Who needs teddy bears if you can have diamonds?
  25. I didn’t ever expect to be this happy.
